Goal Setting: There is No Time Like the Present

At a time of year where everyone is setting themselves unrealistic new years resolutions, I thought we should all be reminded to take a moment to reflect. I never set resolutions, I find them pretty pointless, however, I do set myself some goals to achieve.

Don’t Wait for the “Right” Moment

I am a firm believer that if you want to make a change, the only thing stopping you is yourself.

Life waits for no one, there is never going to be a perfect time to do something. There will always be distractions and perhaps a negative voice inside your head.

The time is now, if you want something, you have to be prepared to do what it takes to make it happen. I believe we are all capable of whatever we set our minds to. The power of the mind is absolutely incredible, so start believing in yourself!

New Year, Same Me

Personally, I think the most annoying phrase at this time of year is “new year, new me”. You are always going to be the same person, but of course you can change your thought processes and make physical changes to your appearance if you desire.

Something which I think needs to be more appreciated is the person you are RIGHT NOW. You are amazing, you always have been.

Stop wishing for so much change and start sending love to the you that is already here.

I say it every year, I am not going to change in the new year and that is still true for 2019. I honestly feel so happy with where I am in my life right now and have learnt to love myself and I want you to do the same.

Set Goals and Stop the Excuses

Rather than making a somewhat unrealistic list of new years resolutions, use this time to reflect. Look back at how much you have achieved in this past year, it is probably a lot more than you think.

We have heard them all “I am going to eat healthier, I am going to go the gym”… Why are they always so body centred?

The goals I set are relevant to my life situation. For instance, at the beginning of 2018 I made a list of things I wished to achieve that year, including getting a 2:1 in my second year of university and getting a work placement. These were achievable and I began my year with the intention of doing them, therefore, they both came into fruition.

I believe in 2019 we could all do with a bit more happiness and a bit less worry…

  • Take no bullshit
  • Listen to your intuition
  • Have a hell load of fun!

Our Thoughts Become Our Realities

Have you ever heard of the law of attraction? It is simply the idea that explains how our lives are created through one thing; our thoughts.

The Power of the Mind

Many of us do not realise how powerful our minds are. We have thousands, perhaps even millions of thoughts that cross through our minds each day. Many of these are so small, we think of them as insignificant.

The truth is, everything we think about becomes our reality. We are creating our own lives through our thoughts and the way we think.

This can be an overwhelming concept to grasp, as we also have negative thoughts which create negative outcomes.

Positivity and Thoughts

A positive thought vibrates at a high energy level and is so extremely powerful. If you think about the way your mind can talk you into doing something, that is an example of this positive though process.

However, negative thoughts can easily spiral out of control. Like positive ones, we can talk ourselves out of something due to an overload of negative thoughts.

We can easily become stuck in a negative thought pattern which will become visible in our reality.

We Can Make the Change

Naturally, some days we will wake up and feel low. Understanding that we can control how long we feel this way for is a very powerful tool to grasp.

Always accept how you feel, listen to what your body is telling you and let it do what it wishes. Sometimes we require silence, stillness and rest. Other days, we will wake up feeling energised and radiant. 

We are able to shift these thought patterns whenever we feel ready. After feeling low, we can shift our mindset into a more energised one and then we will feel lifted and light. If we continue allowing our mind to feel low and perhaps negative, we will continue to feel this way in ourselves.

Once we grasp the concept that we can actively make that shift, we understand that we are able to live our lives to their full potential and listen to the paths that have been set out for us!

Learning to Let Go

Let go

As Autumn is rapidly approaching, now is a great time to let go. Whilst trees are dropping leaves, we can mirror this and drop any doubts we may be feeling.

Give your Feelings Some TLC

Checking in with ourselves is so important for our mental health. Having an understanding of our feelings and thoughts can give us a great insight into what is going on in those great minds of ours.

If you listen to yourself in a way which suits you, perhaps a full body scan through meditation, you will come to understand yourself better. With this, you can decide if there are any underlying emotions which can be let go of.

Picture letting go. I am not going to tell you how to do this, as each of our imagination’s will be so very different.

Take a leap of faith into the new and unknown, ready to start a new chapter feeling light and free.

Practice makes Perfect

Although there is no such thing as perfect…

Letting go seems simple, however, some of us may struggle more than others. This is totally normal.

This is because our mind is a muscle, so being consistent is key. Pushing ourselves out of that comfort zone is the only way we will ever change.

We have to build up this muscle through training, we are shaping our mind. Learning a new skill takes time, energy, persistence and patience. If you understand this and are ready to let go of bottled up thoughts, then I believe in you.

Let Go of the Fear

Many of us are afraid or a little anxious of the unknown. If you think about it, nothing is really known. We don’t know exactly what will happen tomorrow, or next month, so why waste energy worrying about it.

Things happen for a reason, life is full of lessons. I believe we need to start trusting the unknown and letting whatever happens, simply happen.

If you think about it, scientists have a lot of unknowns as well. We don’t know what is in this universe, if there are other life forms or when the world will end. But, I bet you we don’t sit and worry about these things everyday do we? No, because they are unknowns and out of our control. 

That is where we let go. Using this logic may help you let go in your own life and start trusting what is around you.

Happiness is a Way of Life

You may have heard the saying “happiness is not a destination, it’s a journey”, and as corny as this may sound, it is definitely true.


Stop Waiting for Happiness

If you spend your life thinking “I will be happy when…” then trust me, you will never be happy. Happiness comes from within, therefore, your mindset will have a major impact on the way you feel.

In a time where we live our lives online, many of us may find ourselves comparing our looks and lives to others. Remember that Instagram shows the fun parts, the things people want you to see. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that, if you know me, you will know I love sharing photos.

However, if we keep this attitude of comparisons, we will also struggle to feel happy. It is actually detrimental to our mental health.

The Best Time is NOW

If you really start embracing the present moment, you will be really living! Now is the time you can start something new, break an old habit and really make a change.

Yes, you may plan ahead and be organised, however, arranging to do something ‘tomorrow’ will be actually done in the present moment.

A saying my Grandad ingrained into me, which at a young age, I struggled to understand;

“Today is tomorrow, yesterday.”

If you think about it, then there is nothing untrue about that quote. It goes to show how time passes.

Be Happy and Be You

Feel your happiness. Find your happiness. The way you think impacts the way you feel.

Of course, there are things and people that can make you happy. But, happiness is a feeling and it is sourced from your own head. Keep on doing the things which add to your happiness. Spending time with positive people will also remind you to think happy thoughts.
