Stop Comparing, Start Thanking

Hello all. Today I am going to talk about why we need to stop comparing ourselves to others and start loving who we are. This is one of the best ways to boost your self esteem and most importantly, feel content in your own skin.

Comparing Will Make You Feel Deflated

It is an absolute that if you compare yourself to somebody, whether it be a friend or a celeb, you will gain nothing, except feeling shit. As I say quite often, we are all unique and we all have these wonderful qualities about ourselves which we need to learn to love and embrace.

We also know that we waste a lot of time scrolling, especially looking at celebrity’s holiday snaps. I’m guilty, I love Instagram! However, I know so many people who look at others and say “I wish I had her stomach” or “I just want to be her”. Whilst I am not saying I have never done this in the past, which, okay, yes, may be your motivating way to get to the gym, I don’t hate anything about myself. There may be areas which I can improve, but I love food and I eat fairly healthy most of the time. I am happy with who I am.

My point is, instead of comparing the parts of your own body you don’t like, start to realise that you’re great. The more time you spend thinking negatively, the worse you will feel. If you start loving every piece of who you are, you are going to feel comfortable in your own skin, and will actually begin to look better. The power of the mind is incredible!

Gratitude, Gratitude, Gratitude!

“Comparison is the thief of joy.” – Theodore Roosevelt

Of course, love your friends and appreciate them for who they are, but don’t forget about yourself! By comparing yourself to someone else, you will only create negative energy which can also lead to jealousy.

Being grateful for the beautiful mind and body you have is the best place to start. Gratitude is a word which we see a lot of on social media, so make sure when you say you are grateful, you really mean it. Having a thankful attitude to life will allow you to appreciate even the small things.
