Striving to be your Best, Not for Perfection

“Striving for perfection” is a statement I strongly disagree with. Firstly, what even is perfect? (Having all the required or desired elements, absolute), AKA – there is no such thing.

We seem to be living in a world where people are trying to portray themselves in this way. Instagram and other forms of social media are abundant with posts where people are sharing their “perfect” lives. I believe this is beginning to cause more harm than good – especially for younger generations who are vulnerable and exposed to these sorts of images.

Now, I would be hypocritical if I tried to deny loving a post on the insta. However, I believe the posts I share are reflective of my life and of course I only share the best bits – that is why we must remember that social media is typically a highlight reel. Do not compare. Do not follow people who make you feel shit.

Forget Everyone Else, You do YOU

A common attribute people seem to have these days is to seek approval from others. When did we stop trusting ourselves? Why are we not listening to our own instincts? We need to value our own opinions.

Don’t get me wrong, I am a huge advocate of asking others for help, advice and just being open in general. However, there is a point where we have to take back the responsibility for ourselves.

Ultimately, we are in control of our lives. Other people’s opinions should not alter or deter the decisions we make. Live for you. Be you. Do you.

Take Back your Control

If you are reading this and resonate with it, perhaps there are things in your life that you want to achieve, but someone has said something that has lead you to be filled with doubt. Please bear in mind that you can take back your control over this.

Self belief goes a hell of a long way, no matter how big or small your goal. Take the responsibility for yourself.

I hope you are able to take something away from this post today. I was inspired by a number of conversations I have had recently and it made me realise we need to be striving to be our best selves. Here are a few things I would like you to remember:

  • Don’t let other people’s negativity stop you from achieving your goals
  • Take responsibility for your own actions, then you and only you can be held accountable
  • Mistakes are a way for us to grow – they teach us lots of important lessons
  • You are in control of your life, as are you with your social media use
  • Believe in yourself
  • There’s no time like the present
  • There is no such thing as perfection

Our Thoughts Become Our Realities

Have you ever heard of the law of attraction? It is simply the idea that explains how our lives are created through one thing; our thoughts.

The Power of the Mind

Many of us do not realise how powerful our minds are. We have thousands, perhaps even millions of thoughts that cross through our minds each day. Many of these are so small, we think of them as insignificant.

The truth is, everything we think about becomes our reality. We are creating our own lives through our thoughts and the way we think.

This can be an overwhelming concept to grasp, as we also have negative thoughts which create negative outcomes.

Positivity and Thoughts

A positive thought vibrates at a high energy level and is so extremely powerful. If you think about the way your mind can talk you into doing something, that is an example of this positive though process.

However, negative thoughts can easily spiral out of control. Like positive ones, we can talk ourselves out of something due to an overload of negative thoughts.

We can easily become stuck in a negative thought pattern which will become visible in our reality.

We Can Make the Change

Naturally, some days we will wake up and feel low. Understanding that we can control how long we feel this way for is a very powerful tool to grasp.

Always accept how you feel, listen to what your body is telling you and let it do what it wishes. Sometimes we require silence, stillness and rest. Other days, we will wake up feeling energised and radiant. 

We are able to shift these thought patterns whenever we feel ready. After feeling low, we can shift our mindset into a more energised one and then we will feel lifted and light. If we continue allowing our mind to feel low and perhaps negative, we will continue to feel this way in ourselves.

Once we grasp the concept that we can actively make that shift, we understand that we are able to live our lives to their full potential and listen to the paths that have been set out for us!

Creativity as an Expression of Individuality


“Life has no limits.”

If you want to do something, do it!

We can use creativity in any way we like. Understanding the powers of your creative mind may take a while to come to terms with.

Creativity for Self Expression

Self expression is a wonderful way of allowing yourself to understand yourself. Others are likely to begin to understand who you are along the way.

Using your creative powers to share yourself is a weird and wonderful thing. This, what you are reading right, now can be considered my form of creativity. I am expressing myself through words. Of course, this can be done in any way, through dance, song, art and beyond. Others can appreciate your own creative work.

There are NO LIMITS

I really believe life has no limits. You set your own limits. If you want to do something, do it. From a young age, this has always been a life lesson I have been given on repeat. Now, I really believe this is mentality installed in me. So, I know that I am capable of using my creativity, or, in fact anything I set my mind to.

Therefore, what I am trying to say is, never be afraid of “giving things a go”. Ask yourself what have you got to lose? You don’t know the outcome of something until you have tried it.

Do Creative Ideas Come and Go?

Recently, I came across an interesting concept that ideas come to us and leave us if we don’t do anything about them. A creative spark will come into your life in a metaphysical way, and you chose what to do with it.

This idea comes from Big Magic, an inspirational book by Elizabeth Gilbert. If you are looking for ways to express your creativity, I recommend the read. 

In this, she explains her belief that a creative idea will come to you at the most unusual moment. If you are the person who is supposed to bring this idea to life using your creativity, you will. If not, this idea will move on to someone else.

At first I thought this was a little odd, however, I have since opened up to the idea. If you think of something but don’t grab the opportunity, then it was not meant to be.

Don’t Strive for Perfection

Perfection – defined as: “a state of perfect”. What is perfect? No one knows the answer to this because perfection doesn’t exist. Striving for the best is the very greatest thing you can do, however, perfection is something totally different.


You are Capable of Beautiful Things

Understanding your own powers and capabilities is a grand task. You have an unlimited potential and if you live knowing you are trying your best and working your hardest, there is nothing more you can do.

I mean this not just in relation to say, work, but also in yourself. You are never going to have a perfect mind because there is no such thing. To really be truly happy, you must just let life be. If you are living each day and loving it, then you are living. Trying to make everyday perfect will drain you. No one on earth has ever been perfect.

Let’s Not Categorise Ourselves

Today, many of us seem to label ourselves. Ask yourself this – why? Why are you trying to categorise yourself into being something or someone? If perfection isn’t real, then is it not enough to just be who you are. I believe social media has a big impact on this, but understanding that you shouldn’t be living to please others is a great life lesson.

Aim High, Not for Perfection!

Aim for the best, aim for being the best version of you. Think big! Do not be afraid of failure. Failing is one of the best life lessons we can possibly experience. Throughout our lifetimes, we never stop learning. Life is meant for learning and mistakes often make our most valuable lessons.

There is a difference in trying your hardest and trying to be perfect. Yes, you will be faced with many obstacles along the way but find a way around them, under them, over them or through them.

Your idyllic life will come if you are happy. Happiness is always, in my opinion, the best place to begin with anything.
